THE CAGE 💔

Sharon Chebet was a first year student at Moi University Eldoret. She was just fresh from high school and was an 18 year old naive girl who didn't have much exposure with the outside world. In September 2017, she met a guy at the hall way named Donald.Donald was a graduate from Moi University and was clearing from the institution. He was clearly attracted to her and she found him attractive as well and when he asked for her phone number she didn't hesitate giving him.

Sharon had never been in any relationship and when Donald asked her out she was very excited and happy. He didn't come from a poor home so he would mostly buy her gifts and sometimes sent her a little upkeep money.She came from a humble home and the little things Donald did for her always made her feel like she was a very lucky girl. She lived in the campus hostel and would often visit her boyfriend during the weekends, but after a while she started spending alot of time at his place and missed a couple of lessons. Her boyfriend introduced her to alcohol and pot and they spent most of their time partying and drinking and she  started showing up to school only when she had a CAT or an examination.

The first semester came to an end and Sharon went home for the two weeks they had closed. When she resumed she went straight to her boyfriend's place unannounced and what she saw broke her into tiny pieces,her boyfriend had another girl in his house. He watched her leave in tears and later on lied to her that she had the wrong impression and that she was too quick to judge him.Donald told her that the girl in his house is his relative and that she had left. He manipulated her and sent her some cash, she instantly fell for it and it was like she was wrapped up around his finger.

Sharon's end of semester one  results came out and she had 3 supplementaries, she knew she had failed but that didn't bother her since she was living a different lifestyle compared to how she came. Her boyfriend gave her enough money for upkeep and she didn't really take her education seriously. Donald was in his best behavior after the incident and she felt guilty for judging him earlier until she found her him flirting with her friend. He once again knew how to get her to forgive him by blaming it on her friend, buying her a gift and giving her some cash. Ever since he realized that he could get away with cheating by emotionally blackmailing her and giving her cash he continued to play with her emotions,but eventually she started to get tired of it all. She slowly distanced herself from him and even when he tried to use his old tricks she didn't fall for any of it until they broke up. Sharon started focusing on school work which helped her in catching up with the rest.She was very lucky that she had no infection of any sort and decided to be wise henceforth.

Alot of students are in toxic relationships that don't help them grow but since they are getting some benefits from the relationship they prefer to suffer in silence until they can't do it anymore.Walk away from any sort of a toxic relationship mental health and self respect is better than anything the relationship is offering.
